Then, recognize quality scientific and historical information that supports the biblical text. That means we must first give the biblical text a chance to give answers to our questions about origins. When you look around and see so much evil, conflict, and trouble in the world, do you wonder how this place we call home got so bad? Do you long to know what God’s original creation might have been like? Are you hopeful that there is something better in the future? Finally, note that the psalms for each Sunday after Pentecost are intended to be paired with a particular OT reading (either semicontinuous or complementary). Are you bothered by the conflicting messages you get from what the Bible teaches about God’s creation of everything and what the world says happened? In addition, both sets of readings sometimes offer alternate options (indicated by italics): readings that may be used with, or in place of, the standard reading. Whichever approach is chosen at the beginning of Pentecost, the intent is for the remaining Season after Pentecost readings to follow the same approach. "Complementary" OT readings follow the historical tradition of thematically pairing the OT reading with the Gospel reading. The first set of "semicontinuous" OT readings follows major stories/themes, beginning in Year A with Genesis and ending in Year C with the later prophets.
